I love coming up to the Erie Canal. Life is different. Things take on a different speed and pace.
It’s kind of snail pace, much like the snail I saw when I went for a bike ride along the canal. In fact I saw a ton of snails along the path. They were all going from the street side of the path over to the canal side. They were making a dangerous journey. They are small and slow, and yet hundreds of them do this journey every day. And some don’t make it.
One of the other neat things about the canal is all the neat little nooks and crannies and cute small places along the canal. You come across small hamlets, places not even big enough to be considered towns or villages. One of my favorites is Adams Basin. It’s a quiet small hamlet along the canal. There’s a post office and a bed and breakfast and a few houses and a lift bridge. That’s about it. But its beautiful.
