A couple of weeks ago, I took a short trip to Latvia and Lithuania. It was a great experience. I wanted to see the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania (I’ll be writing more about that in the near future).
In order to get there, the easiest place to fly into was Riga, Latvia. I’m glad I flew there for a number of reason. First, it was only an hour-long flight. Second, it’s a beautiful city and they have a great old town section.
Over the next couple of weeks or so, I’ll be posting pictures of my trip in Riga and Siauliai, Lithuania and the Hill of Crosses. Enjoy.
Today I start with the first thing I saw – Vermanes Garden in Riga.
Vērmanes Garden is the oldest public garden in the city of Riga, Latvia, and currently comprises an area of approximately 5 hectares. The current name is a Latvian transliteration of the gardens original German name. (source Wikipedia)
I found the gardens to be rather beautiful. Lots of people walking through the park. If Riga has done one thing right (they’ve done many things right I would say), it is that they have many parks and gardens throughout the city. These green spaces give people a great opportunity to take a breath in the hectic day.
