As we continued to walk through Hofgarten, we came across the Bayerische Staatskanzlei and the memorial for the Jewish dead.
The Bayerische Staatskanzlei is a beautiful building, especially for a state agency.
It almost looks like a botanical garden.
We also came across the Memorial for the Jewish Dead.
It’s a large block. There are several memorials for the Jewish dead around the city. They are typically pretty simple, yet elegant in their own way. This one sits in front of the Bayerische Staatskanzlei.
I can’t help but see the reminders and contrast of this placement. It’s a reminder of what government is capable of doing when placed in the wrong hands – hands interested in division, in blame shifting, in power at all costs, in a narcissistic world view.
