One of the more illustrious places at Thingvellir is the drowning pool. It’s named that for a very good reason. It’s where they executed people by drowning.
Today it looks calm and peaceful. But it’s history is anything but that. At the site, there are some helpful plaques to tell visitors of the history.
Drowning sounds gruesome. Thankfully this pool is no longer used for this purpose. May God have mercy on those who died this way.
