As I mentioned in a previous post, Thingvellir has a long history. Iceland has a long and fascinating history. It’s the only language that really hasn’t changed in 1000 years. That means if you know Icelandic, you can essentially read something that was written 1000 years ago in Icelandic. Wow.
Thingvellir is a special place for Icelanders. Here’s a little bit of the history.
Another piece of Icelandic history is that Iceland has the oldest continuous Parliament in the world – about 1000 years. It started with the Vikings, right here at Thingvellir. Imagine how government has changed in that 1000 years.
