During our trip to Philadelphia, we ventured over to Elfreth’s Alley.
I could tell you all sorts of things about this alley, or I could just show you the plaque that I found. Yup, you get to read the plaque.
The most important things to note about this alley are two things. 1. The homes are historic and beautiful.
Since it was January, we still had the pleasure of seeing Christmas decorations on the homes.
2. Many of the homes had a unique fire insurance back in the day. A home owner would pay a fire company fire insurance. If there was a fire, then the fire company would come, and look for their insignia on the home. If it was there, then they would put out the fire, if not, well, you might have some issues. I found three different fire insurance insignia.
