One of the neat things about a place like the Allegheny Portage Rail Road is that they hold living history days from time to time.
After our initial visit to the rail road in May, we came back in June for their annual summer living history day. We learned all sorts of things about life along the rail road in 1830.
It was especially interesting to learn about the militia. The park rangers dressed in period clothing, did demonstrations, and interacted with visitors.
The militia demonstration of the drill the militia trained with was very interesting. It’s just over 2 minutes. Each step was a specific command. The reason they trained was to reduce the time. Enjoy!
